I'm so goddamn new to this. But you learn, sometimes, by throwing yourself in it.

I started coding with friends about two weeks ago. All I know is some (very very) basic Java Script and Unity, which is what I'll be using. (I did mess around with some html and VisualBasic 10-15 years ago but all I remembered from that was how to make something italicised.) I might use some Audacity or something. Maybe some Blender and probably some Sculptris.

This is going to be fun. This currently is scary.

We have a small team this time.

dcm, Neurolabe (with severe time restrictions) and I, Mez, have teamed up to bring you f#ckers down!

dcm, the wizard, making the impossible possible; Neurolabe, the dreamer, making the possible impossible; and me, the clown, making the possible possible and leaving the impossible where it is with the occasional sideways glance to see if it has become possible since I last looked.

But seriously, this is what we’re doing:

  • Unity in C# – dcm
  • Unityscript – Neurolabe, maybe me if I’m feeling brave
  • Maya – Mezzomatto
  • Adobe Everything – Mezzomatto
  • Probably some Audacity – probably me
  • Maybe a bit of Blender – possibly me
  • Scraps of torn paper – definitely me
  • Whiteboard – all

Background:

We decided to do this a couple of weeks ago so we started brainstorming what we needed to learn. Then we accidentally made half of a game we like so it looks like we’ll be doing LD then going back and finishing that other one off with aaaaaall the spare time we have. At least I now know how to animated something in Maya and that UVs are not all that scary…

Seriously – all these posts are get me super excited. Not excited to stay awake though; 6am is a little past my bedtime. Up again in 3-4 hours to review with a clear head.

The year is 2112; one hundred years and four thousand disproved doomsday predictions in the future.

Humans have met an alien race and immediately entered into diplomatic relations with them. The offer of trade rights was made with the only condition being the establishment of 128 Earth bases on the aliens’ home planet. The selfish aliens declined…

It is up to you to persuade our new friends. Board your long-range frigate and launch as many nukes on their home world as you can before they fend you off.

We can then resume diplomatic relations having shown the aliens the benefits of cooperation.

Been coding for a whole three weeks or something. Thought I’d dive into something I’m way underequipped to do. So here I am!

I’ll be using Unity and Audacity and Sculptris (because it is amazingly easy to create something passable with these).

Wish me luck guys! I might be new but I’m full of good ideas and relevant, but not directly so, skills.
