If you are on a gamejam with short time and you dont want to code basic stuff like a pick up system or even how doors work in UE4 then you can simply use this tool #FPEkit. I made some walking simulators in my time here but I used unity and didnt got into coding but with the easy to use Blueprints (visual scripting language) in UE4 I got into it. It may seem as a lot of work at first but this tool can cut some time with examples and plug and use codes. Everything to get you started with

First Person Exploration Kit is a starter package to create a First Person Environmental Exploration or “walking simulator”.
It is easy to use & cheap. It is build for the Unreal Engine 4.

With two months having passed since the last LD, some of you might miss jamming already… Well good news, the 2nd edition of the Alakajam! event starts soon!

If you’re free on February 23-25th, you might be interested in joining our young community for a week-end of jamming:

  • The two weeks prior to the jam are dedicated to an original 2-step voting system (Week 1 = submission/voting, Week 2 = shortlist ranking
  • The jam itself lasts 48 hours, both for solo & team entrants, with start/end times suited to Europeans (7pm GMT)
  • Two weeks of community voting then take place until the winners are announced!

Our first jam back in September was great fun, ending with 50 games and some really awesome entries! We hope to see you there :)

1st LD Projects at the end of the year

Hey guys! I have some awesome new projects to share and some really exciting news! Today I released my newest EP and a track that I collaborated with D3ST1N to produce. Here is a update of some of what I’ve produced since Ludum Dare.

Psychosis

Psychosis is DEFFINATLY the best track I’ve produced yet, and it collabing with D3ST1N was just awesome. His style is so aggressive and fun, I had a blast collaborating. Combining our style was just beautiful. We both have similar aggressive dubstep styles, but yet our styles are so different. The combination was just amazing in my opinion. I really hope you enjoy listening to this track as I much as I enjoyed creating it.

Hey! We did this little thing for this weekend using Defold!

It’s my second time using Defold now, and I’m starting to like it more and more! It crashed a few times, but other than that it was a pleasant experience 😀

Anyway, the game idea is to build an automated recycle plant and uh, make a profit or something(?). We only managed to build conveyor belts and item splitters, but we wanted to make it a bit more sim city-esque where you would build different types of material processors / furnaces that converts materials into energy or sub-materials that is needed to run the facility, factory workers that would run the machines, paid contracts from the city that you could accept in order to generate cashflow etc. But for a ~24h game it’s pretty fun.

Web and keyboard controls:

Arrows – Move robot
Space – Grab trash
Z/X – Toggle build selection
Enter – Build selection
Shift – While moving, dashes robot forward
Desktop and gamepad controls:

Left stick – Move robot
Cross (PS4), A (Xbox) – Grab trash
Shoulder buttons – Toggle build selection
Square (PS4), X (Xbox) – Build selection
Left trigger button – While moving, dashes robot forward

Made a tool to convert images/videos into 8Bit/Pixel Style

If you are on a gamejam with short time and you need some pixel assets you can use PixaTool that easily help you to convert images/videos into 8bit / Pixel style.

So you can use 3D render images, illustrations or painted images to give that PixelArt feeling. Also have batch processing and can export videos, look the info in the official page and their tutorial to learn how they are done.

Here is an example of the conversion quality

2 years ago I made Santa explode millions of times!

It was for LD 34.

I really like my game and I still enjoy to play it today !

The controls are not easy to catch (as it’s a left/right 90° rotation) but I’d like you to make a try.

Once you get it, the game is really fun.

Download on itch.io:

What i do wrong?

Hi! Recently i made my second game for Android and publish it in Google Play. Sometime later i saw that it also doesn’t popular as my first game. Why? What i do wrong?

Preface about my last 2 years of development
In winter holydays in 2016 year i learned next books:
Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship – Robert Martin;
Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software – GOF;
Learning LibGDX Game Development – Suryakumar Balakrishnan Nair, Andreas Oehlke.

First step
After it I were start to develop my first real game (not prototype, full with main menu screen, pause and also leaderboard) one and half year ago. I published it in Google Play at 3 march 2017. Game like Pac Man about dormitory life. You need to run away from three girls, eat fruits and other dishes and collect coins.

About development
I were start from class diagram and go towards code over about one month. A lot of time took design. Top-view peoples is were 3d-models. Yes, it took many many time to learn 3D Max, Maya and put it to trash. In the end i chose Poser with standart Assets. After it i were need to animate characters that took also not less time. I animated characters in the same Poser. Next was other parts of design. It was beauty and simple. Sounds was getted from free sounds web resources.

Result
This game has 179 installs after publish, for more half year. Yes, it’s fiasco.

Second step
After my first big game i were join to Ludum Dare #38 with game ‘The Whole truth about Nature selection’. May be you saw it. And it was cool. I received comments and likes. It wasn’t popular, but it in any case was very cool expierence. I joined the Jam, although i wanted to join the Compo.

About development
I used my paper notepad for prototyping, Photoshop for fast design and Processing JS for code. Sounds was record in my kitchen on my Macbook.

Result
2 like on Openprocessing.org, about 700+/2500 place on ldjam.com in total rating.

Third step
My last game was Simple and Classic Match 3 game. Game about Russian cities sights.

About development
I used Illustrator for design, LibGDX and Java for code, sounds from free sounds web recources.

Result
And after publish, 20 October 2017 it has 3 installs.

Is there any advises?
I published news on my social media pages and it not working. I used best-practice for Google Play description decoration, made promo video and took good screenshots. It was my big mistake to make not candy Match 3? It’s normal? Maybe my games really not good? What do you think about it?
I will thank you for your any comments and advises.
